REST, MY WEARY SOLDIER FRIEND
Rest, my weary soldier friend.
Be still, tormented heart.
The war has long been over,
but the battle rages on.
In peaceful sleep it steals away
the calm that lies within;
and though the war has ended,
you drift back there again.
The ruins that you left behind
haunt your every dream,
with terror and trepidation,
that few have ever seen.
And though you try to cast aside
the fear that drove you on,
the fear becomes your enemy,
and the enemy lives on.
Rest, my weary soldier friend.
I remain ever at your side.
I pray for God to heal your wounds,
so in His Peace you may abide.
With greatest hope I implore
that all your pain will end;
and with Faith and Strength renewed,
you'll begin to live again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FOR YOUR SAFE RETURN
Each time you journey away again
to help someone in need;
you put your life on hold,
reach out to strangers,
and make a difference in someone else's struggle.
And I Hope FOR YOUR SAFE RETURN.
Without hesitation you pack,
and are "at the ready;"
not knowing of the dangers you might face,
yet knowing the task demands your best service.
And I Wish FOR YOUR SAFE RETURN.
How powerful the farewell embrace,
while memorizing each line of your face;
as I linger and watch the convoy disappear.
Though you are away, I know you are near.
And I Pray FOR YOUR SAFE RETURN.
I say goodnight to you each evening,
and good morning when I awake.
I miss your voice softly saying,
"I Love You."
And I Long FOR YOUR SAFE RETURN.
You dedicate your life to helping others.
You stand up for FREEDOM
and stand against oppression;
even when you can barely stand at all.
And I WAIT...
FOR YOUR SAFE RETURN.
